Neighborhoods

Druid Hills is a neighborhood in the city of Jacksonville, Florida. It’s located just off I-10 and has been home to Poinsett Elementary School since 1973. The school used to be known as Druid Hills Elementary until it was renamed in honor of George Poinsett, who was born in 1779 near Fort Motte (now Mount Holly), S.C.

He served as U.S. Ambassador to Mexico from 1825-29 and Secretary of War during Polk’s administration. He served on JEA’s board from 1926 until his death at age 82 on September 10th, 1851 (shortly after his retirement).

Druid Hills is also home to Springfield Mall, which opened in 1971 with anchors Montgomery Ward (later JCPenney), Belk-Leggett (later Dillard’s/Macy’s/Dick’s Sporting Goods), and Sears Roebuck & Company (it closed in 1994).

A movie theater opened there, too: The Cinema Theater, which featured one screen showing first-run movies from 1972 until 1988 when AMC took over operations within Springfield Mall; they added another two screens inside mall space by 1993 but closed again by 1997; this happened around the same time due to construction done prior where Westland Mall replaced Brooks Crossing Shopping Center which housed Cinema Theater before its closure date.”
